PRIMARY ROLE
of health informatics
The primary role of health informatics differs in purpose and use from consumer to consumer and area of health. Some health professionals may use health information technology as part of their daily routine this use can extend to use in hospital recording and development systems (Garde, Harrison, & Hovenga, 2005).
These systems can include those that directly support the delivery of health care (clinical information systems in addition to those that address the operational aspects of a provider organisation (administrative information systems).
Information gathering, processing and communication are necessary to improving health care delivery. The health care sector has lagged behind many other industries over time regarding the adoption and investment in information communication technologies (Reid, Compton, Grossman, & Fanjiang, 2005).
